Ok as promised, a rundown of Robyn’s 9:30 set in Houston. Got there about 15 minutes early to find a line of about 100 people outside waiting to get in. I mustered up my old Ohio heritage and thought “38 degrees isn’t that cold”. Lynn and I shared a table one table back from the front, so it was an excellent vantage point. While I wondered if RH would have any gas left in the tank after already playing an early show [note: the early show at the venue was by a different band, not Robyn], I needn’t have worried, as he was his wonderfully loopy self. As he put it, “I ramble on about all sorts of things and charge money for it”. I am there for it! Set list (which is now in my grubby little hands) below…and as you can see, there were some new ones. “Resonator” was supposedly beamed from the now-rehomed Daphne to Robyn in London and was alternately bizarre and rocking. Even more rocking was the set closer “I Am This Thing”…can’t wait til that hits vinyl. The encore was a clutch of requests, “Gene Hackman”, “So You Think You’re in Love”, and “Wreck of the Arthur Lee”, ending with “A Day in the Life”, which will be on the acoustic record that accompanies the release of his memoir of 1967, out this summer. I’ve never seen Robyn give anything less than a great show, and this was no exception. He truly hasn’t lost a step, and thank Zod for that.
P.S. he didn’t play my request for Bike…dang.
P.P.S.: per RH…”why weren’t boiled eggs mentioned in the Bible? Because they weren’t relevant!”
