Field work for a special edition of Record Detective published by the Japanese rock magazine The Dig: I accompanied Robyn and the Minus 5 to a West Shinjuku record store, and gave them each ¥5,000 from the editorial department. As planned, I spent an hour shopping with them. All five took part enthusiastically despite the strong wind and rain. The results of our shopping trip will be published in the next edition of The Dig.

Robyn's artwork was on display on the wall at the venue. The support act was Mr Koji Wakui.

This was the very first time that the Minus 5 have played an acoustic concert. This made it a special event that really appealed to the fans. It was such a fantastic performance that you wouldn't have believed it was their first. It just goes to show what can be achieved by such highly experienced musicians. Not surprisingly the core of the songs they played came from their new album, The Minus 5 (aka The Gun Album), but they also played songs including "The Lonesome Death of Buck McCoy" and "The Days of Wine and Booze", as well as the Johnny Cash song "I Still Miss Someone" that Scott has been singing often of late.

After this, I heard Bill singing onstage for the first time. He accompanied Scott in a surprised fashion, and joked about Scott's choice of song material.

John has disbanded the Model Rockets, and formed a new band called Trip Wire with Jim Sangster from the Young Fresh Fellows. I hear that their debut album will be released in the first half of next year.

An honorary member of the Minus 5, Morgan Fisher was scheduled to perform at the gigs on the 7th and the 8th, and had only come to see this concert, but in the end he played one song with the band. This was not the song he plays in on the album, and he gave a completely unrehearsed performance.
