Well I hope all you Bay Areans are hitting yourself for not having read your mail this morning. Hitchcock played at Neurotic Records in San Francisco, Saturday 24 September, with just his acoustic guitar, an audience of about fifteen people, and a sketchy set list. Mostly he just took requests -- that's not to say he played them. The most interesting point was his misinterpretation of a request for "Linctus House" as "Meat Home." He promptly launched into an apparently extemporaneous and incredibly bizarre song, which went "Oh, darling, is the meat home? Yes, honey, I think it is. Oh, darling, is the meat home? Yes, I think it's in the fridge." until everyone collapsed with hysteria. (This song also contained the line "Is that some Ben and Jerry's you've got on you, or are you just glad to see me?")

Afterwards I asked him about "The Professor," the story he wrote with James Fletcher, an excerpt of which appears on the back of the _Eaten By Her Own Dinner_ EP. He explained that he and Fletcher had written several episodes of this thing, stopping when Fletcher "seized up - like a mule." He said he would try to get the story back from the reclusive Fletcher for inclusion on a forthcoming spoken-word album.

One of my favorite Robyn experiences was seeing him play at Neurotic Records in SF last fall. There couldn't have been more than 20 of us in the shop, many of us sitting on the floor watching him play acoustically in front of racks of polyester shirts. I hope he's back soon!
