Sometime in the late 70s, Pat Collier recorded a demo of the Meatpackers doing a cover of this James A. Smith tune, at Spaceward Studios in the UK. It was slated to be released as a promo single in 1980 but as far as we can tell, only test pressings of this record exist. Per the Jokonky blog, "Armageddon Records' debut single was intended to be "Zip Zip" b/w "Unpleasant Stain" by Maureen And The Meatpackers. An acetate of these pre-Soft Boys recordings exists, and was assigned catalog number AS 001." Armageddon went on to release a number of Soft Boys and Kimberley Rew records for a few years - see blog link above. Scads of info about the Meatpackers and other early Robyn tidbits are available in the great Forced Exposure interview from 1987. Other versions of Zip Zip were released, see the song's entry here on Asking Tree or check the entry for the first episode of Music View. As a final note, this single is listed in Carolyn Hamilton's 1988 discography, which confirms Robyn sings and plays guitar on the track.
