The Film Independent Spirit Awards (abbreviated Spirit Awards and originally known as the FINDIE or Friends of Independents Awards) are awards presented annually to independent filmmakers. Founded in 1984, the event was renamed the Independent Spirit Awards in 1986.

The awards show is held inside a tent at a parking lot of the beach in Santa Monica, California, usually on the day before the Academy Awards (since 1999; originally the Saturday before).
