You might remember the famous revolving central bar in this long-lost Wiltshire nightclub (leading to a few bumps and bruises over the years). The legendary Brunel Rooms opened in March 1973, with a capacity of 1,800 and was a major part of music and dance culture in Swindon for over three decades.
The town centre venue hosted early performances by music giants including Blondie, Iron Maiden and The Jam and was owned by the Swindon-based Reid family and run by Stephen Reid.
The Havelock Street premises was eventually sold to Luminar in 2007. It later became Liquid & Envy nightclub, sadly without the revolving bar this time. Liquid & Envy closed in 2011 and the building remained empty until last year, when it became Hive Nightclub.
