The Portland Arms pub in their native Cambridge hosted some legendary Soft Boys gigs in 1978 and 1979, and Robyn returned there in more recent years as well. There has been an inn on the site of the Portland Arms since the 1880s when it was called the Scales Hotel. The current building dates from the 1930s and was designed by renowned architect Basil Oliver (1882-1948) who designed a number of “Improved Public Houses” for Barclay Perkins. The music venue space was renovated in 2012 and doubled in capacity from 100 to 200 attendees.
