This Syd Barrett song starts in the key of E but turns out to be in the key of A. Impossible yet natural, like an M.C. Escher drawing, it oozes through viscous fluid in a sensual way, like two lovers floating in a fish tank, streaked by rays of sunlight filtered through water weed. Two creatures suspended in the liquid, weightless and aimless, occasionally bumping their noses together - that’s love, to be sure.

Who knows what pictures were in Barrett’s mind when he wrote it? What matters more is what images are conjured in the listener’s head when they hear it. Songs are one thing to the transmitter and another to the receiver.
