The older it gets, the golder it is. The “Alternative Rock” era, as embodied by my old friends in R.E.M., seems mythical now. Our teenage audience, in dorms and apartments and college residences are now navigating the lagoons of middle age. All of us are hauling carriages of memory up our various hills. Time happens: what can you do about it? Well, said the professor, it all depends how you look at it: are you carrying your memories or are they carrying you? And if time is a spiral, you’re never back where you were - you’re just somewhere fractionally ahead of it. I know what he’s going to say next: if time is a corkscrew, who is the bottle?
