The world is getting hotter and even in Britain we’re beginning to feel it. Nonetheless, we’re such chilly, damp isles that it still feels like most of the year is wintertime. There’s a sliver of rare beauty when the British countryside glows and shimmers in the hot days and long evenings. Or am I just taking another vacation in the past? In this song I’m visualising a group of old friends meeting up year after year for whatever the summer might throw at them. The saga wants to continue, with a central cast and some rotating extras: but it’s late August and the nights are drawing in fast. It’s meant to sound light and cute and fey; I’d love to hear Crosby and McGuinn singing it, though that somehow seems unlikely…
