“Beatle Davey & Beatle Robyn team up again for this perspirational take of McCartney’s classic late-Fabs number, a latterday showcase for John & Paul”. That’s one way of putting it; hid behind every dream is another dream, stashed in the hidey-hole of your memory like a rare brandy-bottle or a Last Will & Testament. The dream in this case being What If The Beatles Had Continued?

Sadly, even the continued existence of The Boys (baked by time into The Men?) could not have prevented the 1970s from happening. However, the exquisite sound of their voices together, in any combination of Paul, George and John would surely have compensated somewhat. Davey Lane and I are gradually adding to our repertoire for a side-hustle as yet another Beatles tribute act - should there be a need for such an entity in Australia. Or beyond.

Two Of Us may have been triggered by an afternoon outing by Paul and Linda, but from the first time I heard it in May 1970 it seemed very much to be an elegy to himself and Lennon. John even deigns to sing along on every verse, with that distinctive low harmony that I do my best to replicate here, filmed by Jeremy Dylan at the Merri Creek Tavern in Melbourne in deep and sweaty heat.
