Since I cut this demo in June, the song keeps sprouting new lyrics and I’ve developed the chords at the end; but I like the feel of this early take, so I thought I’d share it with y’all. Matthew Seligman sometimes preferred my words before I’d worked on them properly: directly from the subconscious, uncensored by reflection. Half-baked, in a way. Ironically, he sometimes picked away at his own compositions until there was nothing left. I often think “What would Matthew do here? Would he make an edit?”

So I’ve edited the structure of SPINNING BACKWARDS, leaving only the minimum space for the lyrics that I keep writing. Hopefully the best ones will congeal over the melody - you read it here first…

To me a song is a refuge, not an alarm clock - but occasionally the outside world bleeds through into my compositions. I like to hide in music, whenever I can. However, you can’t escape the truth - merely hope to transcend it. Maybe one day the world will start spinning forward again…
