Notes

On SNAP with Deirdre O'Donoghue. More info at KCRW's website
Robyn debuts a number of songs that would be recorded for Eye later in the year. Cynthia Mask has very different lyrics to the recorded version and Robyn actually says it is made up during the session, but this is likely in response to his banter with O'Donoghue to "play something he hasn't written yet". He introduces Flesh Cartoons as being the title track of a possible upcoming album, "if he finishes it."

Reference is made to Robyn having to leave to go see the "other guys" (he appeared on KROQ-FM the same day) and Deirdre explains that they are not in competition and they couldn't do what she does and she couldn't do what they do. You certainly wouldn't get a 'Loverman' competition on KCRW!

They mention someone was filming it too. I don't think this video has ever come to light as far as I know, but I bet it would be fun to see!

Set List

  1. More Chinese Boys
  2. Cynthia Mask prototype version
  3. Queen Elvis
  4. Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands Bob Dylan incomplete, sung in a Bob Dylan voice
  5. Flesh Cartoons

Reviews

Both the KROQ and KCRW appearances were on the same day - 4/24/89. KROQ was later (after 10PM, as it was during the regular Loveline slot). I have both on one tape and that's the date written on the J-Card for both appearances. I recall hearing the start of the KROQ broadcast live while driving home, getting there and throwing a tape in to record, then trying to get through with a (reasonable) request on the phone. My recording of the KCRW set has to be a dub from a friend as I hadn't got home yet, as it starts after the KROQ set. I called in sick the next day, went to the Sherman Oaks in-store, then went to McCabe's.
