Quick note about yesterday's delightful book event with Robyn: The conversation (with South African music writer Lior Phillips) lasted about an hour, with no readings. We learned that Robyn and Emma have a pet psychic to communicate with Tubby and Ringo, as well as details of how Robyn's synesthesia works. Robyn came without guitar, so I assumed we wouldn't get any music, but as the event wound down, Robyn and Lior noticed the covered piano behind them, and Robyn started to shake and stretch his hands. So we got a special treat--three off-the-cuff Robyn piano songs, Ghost in Sunlight, Flavour of Night, and The Man Who Invented Himself. I was in the front row, but didn't take any pictures (and was glad I hadn't, as when the event wound down and book signings were about to start, Robyn requested no selfies, and said he didn't really like to be photographed). There may be recordings of the songs floating around on social media, though, as several folks were recording. FYI, the sponsoring bookstore, Exile in Bookville, is a bookstore with a special focus on music-related books (thus the name), and well worth a visit if you're in downtown Chicago.
