Backstage photos at Getty ImagesShow photos at Getty ImagesOnline review by New York TimesRaul Midon sustained the vocal line of “I Can See for Miles” with a hint of menace but dissipated it in a hummed, trumpetlike solo. Digging into the Who’s catalog, Asaf Avidan sang “Naked Eye” as a folky lament in his high, pinched voice;
Robyn Hitchcock prefaced “Substitute” with a snippet of “A Quick One While He’s Away.” Rich Pagano, the drummer who led the concert’s house band, the SugarCane Cups, provided musicology in “Love Ain’t for Keeping,” suggesting its drumbeat came from the Band. The group also backed Nicole Atkins, Bob Mould and Willie Nile, who came onstage with a crutch but ended up dancing without it.
